In New Zealand speed limits are enforced. The ticket tolerance is 10km/hr so doing 111km/h or more on the open road is fair game. This tolerance is often further reduced to 5km/h over public holiday periods. Unmarked camera vans can be found at many locations between Auckland and the Paihia turnoff, typically on straight stretches of road or passing lanes. The marked New Zealand Police highway patrols also frequent State Highway 1. Watch around the entrance and exit from the toll road tunnels and northbound where the speed limit reduces from 100km to 80km. The speed limit has also been reduced to 80km/h through the Dome Valley area between Warkworth and Wellsford and the northern side of the Brenderwyn hill between Wellsford and Whangarei. Expect heavy enforcement along any straight stretch of road and around passing lanes.
