New Zealand Daylight Saving Time

When do the clocks go back one hour?

When do the clocks go forward one hour?

Daylight Saving in New Zealand commences on the last Sunday in September, when 2.00am becomes 3.00am, and ends on the first Sunday in April the following year, when 3.00am becomes 2.00am. What time do I put the clock forward or back? The best way is just before going to bed. Keep user guides and instruction manuals for microwaves, ovens, alarm clocks, car stereos, home stereos, alarm systems etc as all these clocks have to be manually changed
  Start Date (forward 1 hour)

Finish Date (back 1 hour)

Employee Holiday Entitlements - New Zealand law entitles employees to at least four weeks paid leave after the first year of employment. *Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and January 2 Holiday - These public holidays are observed on the actual day when they fall on a weekday. When they fall on a Saturday or Sunday - If the employee would normally have worked on the Saturday/Sunday, the Public holiday is observed on the Saturday/Sunday. If the employee would not normally have worked on the Saturday/Sunday, the Public holiday is observed on the following Monday/Tuesday.

Mondayisation

From 1 January 2014 the public holiday for ANZAC Day and Waitangi Day will be Mondayised if they fall on a Saturday or Sunday. For employees who would not otherwise work on that Saturday or Sunday, the Public holiday must be treated as falling on the following Monday or Tuesday. For employees who would otherwise work on that Saturday or Sunday, the public holiday must be treated as falling on that day.

Holiday entitlements over Easter and ANZAC Weekends

Employees who normally work on Good Friday and Easter Monday will receive a paid day off. If they are required to work, they are entitled to time and a half for the hours worked on those days plus an alternative holiday if the day is an otherwise working day for the employee. Easter Sunday is NOT a public holiday.  This means that there is no legal entitlement to a paid day off or time and a half for hours worked on this day under the Holidays Act 2003.  On ANZAC Day If the business remains closed for the whole day and but for that closure the employee would have worked they must be paid for the day off. If the business remains closed until 1pm and the employee works from 1 to 5pm instead of the usually worked 9 to 5pm then the employee must receive at least time and a half for each hour worked plus a paid alternate day off.

Parental Leave Entitlements

Provisions depend on the term of employment employer and can include a paid maternity leave of 14 continuous weeks for the mother and partnerís/paternity leave for up to two weeks. New mothers are entitled to leave their job for up to 12 months, with a guarantee a role will be available upon their return to work
