| Don't get a
speeding ticket - In New Zealand the issuing of speeding tickets to
generally law abiding drivers is a major source of revenue. The ticket
tolerance is 10km/hr so doing 111km/h or more on the open road (even when in a
passing lane or completing an overtaking maneuver is fair game. Look ahead for speed camera cars (unmarked
Ford / Mazda vans) parked at the roadside in suspicious
locations can snap you traveling in either direction. The low power
tight radar angle provides some advance warning for only the best radar detectors.
Latest revenue location is the northern side of the Wenderholm hill (just
past Waiwera) where the speed limit has quietly been reduced from 100km to
80km (80km in force Puhoi to Orewa) |

Unmarked camera
vans, blue and orange city traffic cars and the blue and
yellow marked police highway patrol frequent State Highway 1 around the Silverdale Interchange on
the Northern Motorway (hiding up the on ramps), Orewa outskirts, between Orewa, Warkworth and Wellsford, Waipu straight
north, Marsden Point turnoff,
Whangarei urban areas and around passing lanes at Hikurangi and Hikeranui north
of Whangarei. Traffic police have instant on Ka band Stalker radars, hiding well off the road and
parking lights off at
night. Dual crewed cars and young eager constables love to cloak
themselves behind a large vehicle and then pull out to "button"
(instant on) a victim coming the other way. In rural areas the non highway
patrol (orange and blue) patrol cars
often carry radars and will use them - mostly in an always on
mode. Make sure you carry a drivers license on
you just in case.
Watch your speed ! - we don't want our
guests getting caught or injured. Enjoy the drive and scenery |
